Jenkins, Publix has grown to become the largest employee-owned company in the United States, and the largest supermarket chain in Florida, and the largest in the Southeastern United States. As of 2022, Publix has 1,291 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia, and had plans to open stores in Kentucky in 2023.
